My proposed area of study for this project, will be based around Family Documentary. I will be categorically looking into Kids Documentary more than adults. Within this project I will look in to several researching methods for example Blogs, Books, Internet research. I feel like for the project this is the best theory for me to look into and understand for documentary. My aims of the project are to expand on a more an appropriate understanding of the subject matter also to be able to develop a series of images which i personally think fits within the category of documentary.
Family Documentary Photography or Family Photojournalism is unscripted, un-posed, non-directed photography of everyday family life (and by “family”, I mean everything from the traditional mum/dad/kids to best friends to partners to boyfriends to roommates – whatever “family” means to you). I will record what happens naturally.
The Audience of this project can be associated to anyone, It’s very open as the subject itself is sympathetic about a family relationship, so the series of photos are aimed at anyone. I individualistically want the audience to feel associated with the family. And for you to be able to feel what the family is really like and for you to be a part of it.
My final images will deconstruct of 6 final Images. Documentary photography is not about a single image alone, but about how the images work in a sequence together. Each individual image is all of high quality, and tells a part of the story. Putting the images together to create a complete story is part of the art of documentary photography. Not all documentary photographers choose to shoot in black and white. For this project I will be shooting in colour but changing it into black and white. Personally because black and white does so much more for the form and drama, and makes the image more personal and brings out the story of the Photograph.
Location scouting, I’ll be shooting in a family home or outside in there family garden or in a park. I have chosen these locations as it categorically fits in with my theme and subject matter. As i’m focusing on kids my photos will be more focused on the kids. But also involving the parents/adults. Therefore it’ll bring the realistic approach of the family life story and make the images more naturally and aesthetic.
I will be shooting on a Nikon DSLR 5200 , Lens, Nikon, Nano Crystal Coat 24-120mm, 1.4G. Reason for using the Nano lens is because it has a longer zoom range, which is perfect for the shoot, as I want to be able to zoom into the subject faces. To reinsure my shutter speeds fast enough to avoid camera shake in low light, I’ll be setting the ISO to 400 or higher. And I’ll ensure the shutter speed is 1/60sec or faster. My Camera will be set as manual, i will use the input dial to select a wide aperture, F1.8, F2. Also I’ll be using a tripod to not get camera shake either.
In conclusion, to the subject matter of ‘Family Documentary’ discussed throughout the proposal. I’ve mentioned a variety of techniques that I would use to deliberate throughout this project. Who and where I will be shooting my images. What camera I will be using on the shoot, Why I have chosen the theme I have chosen for the project. I’m hoping on the shoot it goes well and I get a selection of images I can then edit and use for my final submission. I intend to do a variety of shoots so then I have a selection of different Images to choose from.

Sister to myself and mother to Jasmin. I will be taking photos of Sarah throughout the shoot, She doesn’t have a specific role, I just want to basically follow her around the house and take some random shots of the way she lives.
Yasmin Butt, 37 Years Old.
Husband to Sarah and Father to Jasmin. Yamin lives in the same house as Sarah and Jasmin, they are a very happy normal family, Yamin might not be in many photos I take, as he works a lot and doesn’t always come home.
Jasmin Butt, 2 Years Old.
Niece to myself. Jasmin will be my main influence in my photos as she is the main source I want to capture. She is a very lively happy child like any usual child. I want to take a variety of different shots of her what she does everyday to day. I want them to look as realistic as I can get them.
Annie Mayall, 26 Years old
Sister to myself, and Mother to Jensen. Annie will be in the photos as she spends a lot of quality time at Sarah’s house as her son Jensen likes to meet and play with Jasmin. Annie wont be my main subject, but could be mentioned throughout the shoot.
Jensen Mayall, 1 Year Old
Nephew to myself. Jensen is a very happy boy who is happy to do anything he never gets upset, he always seems to be in his own world and loving his life. He never seems to be fussed what is happening around him. He will be another main focal point in my photos as my documentary is based around the kids.
