About the shoot

From my contact sheet, I was really satisfied with the outcome of my Images because overall I think I acquired what I was trying to accomplish for my theme through my photos.

Throughout this project I’ve depleted 4 different test shoots with different locations around the families home. The reason for this, is so I get a different atmosphere through the photos, where as I would if I stayed in one specific spot through out the shoots. I believe with in my test shoots I have accomplished an effective set of images, which to me represent documentary.

The photos I’ve circled on my contact sheet are the ones I prefer and thought showed a meaningful touch, they displayed the most effectible story to tell about the family and brought a great atmosphere into the photos. Some of my shots are not perfect and are not exactly at the correct exposure. But I wont be using every single shot, for me each shot is a practice shot until I know I have got the right shot I need, even if this means I have to took 1000 shots.

All my photos where shot in colour. (Discussed in proposal) but will be changing into black and white. Personally I believe black and white is better for the theme I am going for within my documentary project. Black and white is an attitude, a different way of looking at things. There is an indescribable magic in black and white that is impossible to explain, it is the shadows and the highlights, in the details and in the mystique. Black and white treads that fine line between reality and fantasy. Which I wanted to demonstrate in my series of Images.

Camera settings?

Shoot 1 – Which was shot in the families garden. For this shoot I didn’t use any lighting, I just had natural lighting from outside. Which gave the images that natural feel to them and didn’t make them look staged. As it was quite a sunny day my ISO was set at 400. My shutter speed 1/60 or faster throughout the shoot. My apertures where very wide f1/8 – f/2.

Shoot 2 – Which was shot in the families living room. For this photoshoot again I didn’t use any lighting, I just has natural lighting which came from the front window which brought a lot of light into the room. My ISO was set as 400. My shutter speed was at 1/125 and aperture was at f5.6 – f8.

Shoot 3 – Again this shoot was in the families living room. So the lighting was exactly the same as my second shoot and all of my camera settings where pretty much similar.

Shoot 4 – Was shoot in a farm, so was outside, again had natural lighting from the sun which gave it that natural feel. My ISO was set at 400. Shutter speeds varied from 1/60 or faster. My apertures where at f/2 – f/4.
